About this course

ICT50115 – Diploma of Information Technology is a practical, hands-on qualification aimed at equipping the students with skills and knowledge required in various information technology jobs. The course covers many essential skills and knowledge areas required in many IT jobs like Software Development and Design, Web Application Development, Computer Networking, Network Security and IT Project Management.

The course covers the up-to-date practices, current technologies and popular programming languages like Java, JavaScript, PHP, HTML5 and CSS3. Students will develop high-level technical skills, knowledge and engage in the development of functional desktop, web, cloud or mobile applications in this course.

* All students enrolled in ICT50115 – Diploma of Information Technology are required to complete seven additional units ICTWEB504, ICTPRG410, ICTPRG406, ICTPRG415, ICTSAS518, ICTSAS426, ICTNWK408 in this course. These units are not required to attain ICT50115 – Diploma of Information Technology qualification. NIT has included these units as these are necessary to make qualification suitable for students entering into this course without programming/IT background as well as for students to be able to attain 120 credit points (1 year) advanced standing towards Edith Cowan University (ECU)’s Bachelor of Information Technology course.

Pathway to Further Studies

NIT’s ICT50115 – Diploma of Information Technology has an advanced standing (120 credit points equivalent to 1 year exemption) to Bachelor of Information Technology at Edith Cowan University (ECU)*. With this diploma to degree pathway, students are able to attain two qualifications – Diploma from NIT and a Bachelor degree from ECU – in a shorter time frame and at an affordable fee. In addition, students will be qualified with a diploma after the first year which opens up work opportunities in ICT industry. Click here to search ECU’s advanced standing database.

Alternatively, graduates with ICT50115 – Diploma of Information Technology qualification may also be able to undertake a range of other advanced diploma qualification or an undergraduate degree at tertiary education providers.

To take these further pathways, students must meet the entry requirements of the program specified by an education provider.

International students will also require a valid student visa to enrol in any further qualifications.

* NIT Australia can provide assistance to its students in completing and submitting applications to pathway provider Edith Cowan University, but does not guarantee a place in the pathway program with Edith Cowan University (ECU). Admission to Edith Cowan University’s Bachelor of Information Technology is solely at the discretion of Edith Cowan University.


Entry Requirements

  • Academic: Successful completion of Year 12, equivalent or a higher qualification. Check Australian Year 12 equivalence here.
  • In some cases, NIT may accept you in this course if you have any other relevant qualifications and/or experience.

  • Age: Applicant must be 18 years or above at the time of application.
  • English Language:

    IELTS test score of 5.5 or above or equivalent.

    Note: NIT also accepts Occupational English Test (OET) , TOEFL iBT, Pearson Test of English (PTE) – Academic, or Cambridge English Advanced (CAE) with the scores equivalent to IELTS scores. (Click here to see a table of equivalent scores.)
    OR IELTS test score of 5 or equivalent with at least 10 weeks ELICOS
    OR IELTS test score of 4 or equivalent with at least 20 weeks ELICOS
    OR Successful completion of the Senior Secondary Certificate of Education or studies at the Certificate IV or higher level in an English language in Australia within last two years
    OR Successful completion of at least five years’ study (including year 12 or equivalent) in one or more of the following countries: Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, the Republic of Ireland, UK and USA.
    OR Successful result in NIT’s English Language Proficiency Test. Only applicable for applicants from following countries: (See list here).

Note: During the assessment and verification of the application, NIT may request for additional evidence from the applicant or conduct an interview via Phone, Skype or Google Hangout with the applicant.

Learning and Assessment Methods

This course involves a number of learning and assessment methods. Typically, the learning methods may include Presentations and discussions, Demonstrations, Individual and group activities, Skills practice, Role plays, Case studies, Simulated scenarios and Research activities.

Assessment methods generally include Practical Observation of Tasks, Written or Oral Questioning, Case Studies, Role Plays, Reports, Research Projects, Presentations, etc.

Credit Transfer/ Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Credit Transfer: You may be eligible for Credit Transfer if you are able to demonstrate that you have achieved competency in the same or equivalent unit/s in a Nationally Recognised Training from any Registered Training Organisation.

RPL: If you think that you have already gained the skills and experience for a unit or entire qualification, you can apply for RPL to get recognised as competent for parts or a whole nationally recognised qualification. Not everyone will get credited for their skills and knowledge. Successful applicants will need to demonstrate a reasonable amount of experience in the area their course covers.
